I can’t begin to rave about Ocean Project Maui! They are a private company with marine biologists who take you on a private snorkel adventure. They have a fantastic approach, prior to heading into the water there is an educational piece they share which my son felt added so much to the experience because it allowed him to appreciate what he encountered in the ocean. Jen was amazing from the moment I reached out for a quote. I was scheduled to join in however I was sick the day of and she was very understanding. Last but not least they take pictures of the entire experience therefore you have memorable pictures that last forever. My son shared this was the highlight of the vacation for him.
A MUST DO ACTIVITY ON MAUI. My family of 4 has been fortunate enough to participate in several custom snorkel adventures with Ocean Project Maui, the first of which was over 15 years ago. The staff are all marine biologists/naturalists and take the time to share wonderful hands on education, safety tips, and so much more. They include AMAZING photos of the entire experience both above and below the water. This is like getting a free family portrait session, with the added bonus of underwater photos. They only offer private snorkel tours, so you always get their full attention. I cannot say enough great things about Jen and her team at Ocean Project Maui. They always seem to book up in advance, so don't hesitate.
I can't say enough good things about our experience with Ocean Project Maui! We were recently in Maui and had the pleasure of booking a tour with Jen and Lara, who were amazing. The tour started with a very educational session that was tailored to our two young children. Jen and Lara did a great job of holding the kids' attention while providing a great educational experience. We were provided with wet suits, flippers, and snorkel mask/tube, which was essentially everything needed. They also brought flutterboards so that the kiddos could have an easier time snorkelling. Jen and Lara took AWESOME pictures, which were all shared with us. We saw so many cool fish and turtles, and it was so nice to have our tour guides take pictures so that we didn't have to tote around cameras. The two guides were also amazing with our kids, which let the adults actually -enjoy- the tour LOL This snorkel tour was definitely the highlight of our Maui trip!
We spent 14 days in Maui and this experience was our absolute favorite of all the things we did in Maui (and we did A LOT)! Myself and my 2 children (age 9 and 6) had never snorkeled before and were not strong swimmers either. My children were nervous about snorkeling and had a bit of fear of what was in the water. I also was a bit nervous about snorkeling. Jen and Laura were absolutely amazing with us! We spent the first hour learning about Maui, the coral reef and all the sea life we may see out on our excursion. Jen and Laura then made sure we were fitted properly with snorkel, fins and wetsuits. We then proceeded into the water at our own pace and they made sure we were all comfortable. They stayed within arms length at all times and we felt so safe. The whole time we were in the water my son kept tapping my arm and pointing to all the fish we had just learned about. He was so excited to see everything in the water! My daughter was scared of sea turtles prior due to their size but Jen and Laura talked to her about the turtles and when one came up to her and poked his head out she had the biggest smile and was so excited to see the turtle up close! We saw so many turtles, different types of fish, sea urchins, etc and having the education before hand was awesome as we then knew what we were looking at and what purpose they served in the ocean! The entire time Jen and Laura photographed the snorkel excursion and the photos turned out amazing! My children are still talking about this experience and I could go on and on about it lol! I 100% recommend Ocean Project Maui!
